March is National Athletic Training Month. We use this time to celebrate what the athletic training profession does and how athletic trainers can support all active individuals and athletes at every age level.

The National Athletic Trainers' Association defines athletic trainers (ATs) as "highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's statutes, rules and regulations."
Athletic training has traditionally been in-person, providing event and activity coverage. Trading hours for pay and limiting coverage to those sites where ATs were willing to live or venues they were willing to drive to. With the advancement of technology, WaveOn Health can bring the telehealth model to athletic training and create a new professional setting, a virtual athletic trainer (VAT).

Knowledge of concepts and best practices in athletic training include injury and illness prevention, urgent and emergent care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, behavioral health, return-to-play, and performance enhancement. These concepts and practices can be provided virtually, in addition to in-person.
